White Fillings

What is a white filling?

A white filling is a restoration which is used to fill a cavity and strengthen teeth that have become decayed. Tooth decay, caused by harmful bacteria in the mouth, can cause teeth to become decayed and lose their strength. It is in such instances where a white filling will be used to provide a layer of protection for the teeth. Made from composite resins blended with tiny particles of glass, white fillings are designed to blend in with the natural colour of the tooth.

White fillings are able to improve the overall aesthetics of your smile, giving your tooth a natural look and a sturdy barrier against further decay.

How is a white filling fitted?

This is a simple procedure which is able to restore decayed teeth immediately. To begin with the decayed area of the tooth will be removed and the tooth cleaned, after which etching will be performed to allow the white filling to securely fit to the tooth. A bonding agent is used to coat the surface of the tooth, before the composite agent is inserted into the cavity and shaped to fit the hole. Your dentist will then shine a bright light beam to harden the composite, after which a polish of your new white filling will be performed to ensure it looks the part.
